Utility Trailer

Here, I will describe the process of building a utility trailer from an old camper. Several years ago, I obtained a 35+ year old camper that was in a major state of disrepair. I knew I couldn’t restore it for camping. However,  many of the components were still salvageable. The shell was made of tin and the wiring was usable. The frame was solid and the tires still good. So, I have been working on a project to convert it to a utility trailer. The frame of this trailer is a 3500lb capacity so it should be a very capable trailer for me for years to come.

The Process

For this project, I remounted the axle below the leaf springs to lift the trailer 2-3 inches. This will allow me to lower the wheel wells that far and give great clearance for mowers, etc. The wheel wells were mounted using fabricated steel from the camper itself.
